Sweets

Society- Located in the heart of Yaletown lives the Society Dining Lounge. The establishment is apart of the Glowbal Group with a chain of great restaurants. I have been to all of them and had a high expectation for Society.  The main concept for the restaurant is comfort food with a twist.

I recently attended a birthday celebration there and had the chance to indulge in a few different goodies.

cotton candy drink

The drinks at Society is definitely fun. There are delicious milkshakes that range from spiked to non-alcoholic. If it wasn’t so late in the day I would have absolutely tried one! The Cotton Candy drink was very unique however I found it a bit too sweet.

Pissaladière Pizza

This pizza was very delicious. It is a thin crust with caramelized onions, goat’s cheese, black olive tapenade, roasted red peppers. Tasted very fresh!

Baked Lasagna

kobe meat sauce, tomato fondue, roasted peppers, herbed ricotta. It sounded delicious on the menu however it tasted very ordinary. Definitely had better else where.

(This is when the night took over and I wasn’t able to take pictures =(..sorry!) We also tried the Mac n Cheese Balls  which was Mac n Cheese deep fried with jalapeno, white cheddar. The first few bites were great however the jalapeno was a little over powering and couldn’t taste anything else.

For dessert we were given the dessert platter aka The junk food platter filled with cotton candy, caramel popcorn, doughnut holes, cupcakes, cookies, rice crispy, Oreo milk shake. It was a very fun plate with lots of yummy treats. This was the highlight of the night. The platter has everything needed to satisfy any sweet tooth. It is a must try I would say!

Society is a great place to lounge and enjoy some of you old favorites however not a place to truly indulge in great cuisine.

My favourite food sparkles from the Riu Resort

Unlimited amounts of fresh fruit juices. On the table: Papaya, Pineapple, Celery+Apple+Carrot, Beet Juice. And yes I drank it all=)

Deep Fried Platter from the Steak house. One of our A La Carte dinners. Deep fried: oysters, mushrooms, prawns and chicken wings.

The biggest steak dinner I have ever had…..

My favorite dessert: Pan fried Pineapple topped with coconut ice-cream, and drizzled with chocolate and butterscotch sauce!

Chicken Fettuccine in pesto cream sauce

Grilled Salmon infused with a pistachio spinach sauce

The biggest cream puff ever! Loves!

The special coffee that we lined up for and couldn’t handle. Took a sip and choked from the large amount of alcohol. Looked over and saw a grandmother absorb the drink in two gulps *embarrassed*

Jean Philippe Patisserie– I’m not much of a sweet tooth but this place is an exception. Filled with yummy amounts of chocolate, pastries and cakes! I was literally slobbering all over myself as I wondered through the shop.

The set up is quite unique and a brilliant one. They show case all the delicacies in the center and have the till at the very end of the roundabout. This way as costumers you are forced to visually indulge while waiting in line which entices (well at least me) to buy more. However, I had my trusty partner in crime who is always there to slow me down when I get ahead of myself =)

Chocolate Croissant

Simply. Delectable.

I love Tapioca, so I decided that I would give the Coconut Tapioca recipe a try. It actually turned out pretty good.

Tapioca Pearls in Coconut Cream

(Dan.D.Pak Tapioca Pearls, Aroy-D Coconut Milk and Palm Sugar)

Recipe for 3 servings:

Tapioca Pearls  1 Cup

Water 5 Cups

Palm Sugar 3/4 Cup

Salt 1 teaspoon

Coconut Milk 1 bowl

1) Bring water to a boil and add the Tapioca Pearls.

2) Leave the lid off and cook the Tapioca Pearls for 1/2 hour at minimum heat (Stir often).

3) Add palm sugar and salt.

4) Add Coconut Milk and mix.

I personally added more than 1 bowl of Coconut Milk because I wanted it to be more runny and love Coconut Milk!

Final Product!

Cumpari’s—-One of the finer dessert places in Coquitlam would definitely be Cumpari’s. A few of us got together for dessert on a Monday night and this is the place we decided on.

They have a huge selection of cakes, pastries, gelato and drinks. We decided to share a couple of slices of cake and it was heavenly…..

The Strawberry Diplomatica— creamy white chocolate with a hint of strawberry, and a layer of puff pastry on the bottom!

Chocolate Mouse Cake—mousse chocolate cake with a smooth texture.

The cakes were good and priced decently, however the drinks were mediocre and pricey. Overall, the place has good dessert and lots of seating. A great place for a sweet tooth gathering=)

Beard Papa—-Walked by the newest Beard Papa location on Robson yesterday and decided to by a batch of 6 original cream puffs. Each cream puff costs $1.75 and it was $9.50 for 6, so I did the math and decided to buy 6 knowing that I would have 2 =)

I tried Beard Papa once before at the Aberdeen location but forgot the exact taste and texture. I just remembered it was yumm-O!

After I placed my order of 6, I took another look at the other treats to see if there was anything else I wanted. The Chocolate Cake and the Cheesecake Stick looked great on picture but when I saw it on the counter it was very disappointing. The Cheesecake Stick was the size of my finger and the Chocolate Cake was super tiny. Knowing that I need quantity as well as quality I didn’t bother trying the other treats.

I watched as they prepared my cream puffs and I noticed that they already had the outer shells prepared and injected the whipped cream and custard into the pastry just before handing it to me. (This is why the outer shell stays so dry and crispy).

Once I took my first bite the filling gushed out. (Loves) The outer shell was soft and slightly crispy and the filling was still cold and not too runny. The custard/whipped cream filling had a great taste. It was not too sweet or overwhelming. The cream puff was also decent sized. After indulging in 2 I was very satisfied (Don’t judge me! Only 220 calories/one) ><

They also have other cream filling flavors like : Green Tea, Chocolate, Mango..etc. Next time I will definitely give the others a try.

If you are craving sweets then this will hots the spot =)
